Patent numbers are issued sequentially, beginning with the number one. Patent number one was issued to Samuel Hopkins on July 31,1790. It took 75 years for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to issue patent number 1,000,000. Patent number 7,000,000 was issued February 14, 2006. It took only seven years for the USPTO to move from issuance of patent number 6,000,000 to 7,000,000.

What does this mean? Simply, there is more creativity now that at any time in history. The old saw that “there is nothing new” is completely wrong. There has never been so many people and entities creating novel, unique products, technology and services, and so driven to commercialize these inventions. More patents and entrepreneurs attempting to market their products is indicative that there is more competition for successful placement.

I recently began selling to the retail market after being a Perfume Wholesale Distributor in the Discount Perfume industry for over 28 years. I started selling on eBay and soon noticed some items from my competitors had substantially lower pricing than I could purchase from perfume distributors and the fragrance manufactures. I came across an item by Chanel that caught my eye. This is a company that has strict distribution and limits its supply to all of its distribution channels.

Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum Spray 3.4oz, which retails for $110.00, was on eBay for $39.95. This item, when it is available, sells in the wholesale market for around $85.00. As a consumer, this should immediately put up a red flag as it did for me that this product was either counterfeit or stolen. Based on the price I ruled out stolen merchandise. There is no need to cut the price of perfumes this low. In fact, you can sell perfumes close to or at market price.

When I first sniffed Coco Mademoiselle, it suddenly transported me to an aristocratic woman’s boudoir. In her dressing room, her perfumes would be on top of her antique dresser. She would own fragrances from the world’s most sophisticated and established design houses, such as Creed, Dior, Estee Lauder, Givenchy, Guerlain and Nina Ricci. Of course, her prized scents would come from the world’s most recognized and upscale fashion and perfume house, Chanel. She would use Chanel No. 5 for every day use, Gardenia when she wanted to feel classy and established and Coco Mademoiselle when she wanted to feel young and sensuous.

I recently had another sniff of this new classic perfume, which caused me to have a similar experience when I first encountered the floral fragrance. It took me on a mental journey; I had a fragrance memory. About a year ago, I went on a cruise with a group of good friends to the Mexican Riviera. One of my comrades used my Coco Mademoiselle tester. (I used to sell designer perfumes.) Just like the imaginary woman that I described in the above paragraph, she had an aristocratic aura. She came from a hardworking and good family who appreciated the finer things in life. So, I wasn’t surprise when she used my tester. When she sprayed the fragrance on her body, the blend of her natural oils and the scent were amazing. If I wasn’t part of the third sex, I would have seduced her.

The word ‘provocative’ is an appropriate adjective that could refer to what the brand Calvin Klein is. In the world of perfumes, Calvin Klein is best known for its signature Eternity and Obsession perfumes. There is just so much about Calvin Klein that made it capable of earning its top reputation as a brand that pleases to the senses.

Calvin Richard Klein was born in 1942. Being a Jewish American, he was raised as a typical kid in the immigrant community based in the Bronx in the Big Apple (New York). The place was notably also the breeding ground for other popular fashion designers of this generation like Ralph Lauren and Robert Denning.

My fragrance “wardrobe” needed to be updated since it was getting a bit old. I felt that I needed to add a new cologne to my collection. After reading many reviews, I narrowed my choices to three fragrances: Bond No. 9 Saks Fifth Avenue for Men, Tom Ford for Men and Kiton Black.

I began my journey at in the Fashion Show Mall, which is located on the fabulous Las Vegas Strip. Since these colognes were (and still are) very fine, I figured that Saks would have them all. My first candidate was the trendy store’s namesake, Bond No. 9 Saks Fifth Avenue for Men. According to a press release by this niche perfumer, this cologne is “a blend of Sicilian bergamot, cardamom, amber, and cedarwood, making it ‘an elegant aqua scent.’” So, my expectations were quite high; I expected it to smell just as good as my favorite fragrance, Chanel Pour Monsieur.
